Inspiration
This was an application that originally had it's conception two years ago, with a focus to help History Bowl players. Two years later, HackThis became the perfect venue to create and alter Historio to be an educational tool for everyone.
What it does
It is a knowledge database for people to view historical content, quizzes, and writing tips for essays related to the eras/topics addressed on the website. Currently, Historio has 4 sections in American History, with the ability for registered users to edit the sections to grow the website as long as they have a .edu email, which would verify them as students or faculty.
How I built it
We built it using React and Material-UI for the frontend and next.js for the backend and routing. We also used the Firebase API, namely Firebase Auth to authorize and store users.
Challenges I ran into
Due to server side issues with deploying next.js , for now we only have it available on local host, but can make changes in the future for web hosting.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We are proud the size of the endeavor we took on to develop this website to make it work.
What I learned
We learned history, developing websites with React, and integrating firebase authorization.
What's next for Historio: History for Students by Students
Adding more sections and more civilizations on the content side. We also hope to move this to web hosting in the future.
