Inspiration

I always loved history and wanted to find out about the history of the things arround me. The experience of going to Google, and searching for a website or going to wikipedia was quite terrible since the history was delivered in a not so engaging manner, and ofter I would have to also read it out loud to my partner.

What it doe

My app begins with a quiz about how you like a story told, how is your ideal storyteller and it's personality. Next with a click of a button it retrieves all the historic places near you, giving you the place nearest to you and the remaining ones in a ordered list. You select a place and it will tell you the history of that place based on your ideal storyteller. It can also narrate the history of the place for you.

How we built it

I built it using SwiftUI, Firebase and Google Places API.

Challenges we ran into

Mainly was learning SwiftUI since I never had programmed a iOS application before.

What we learned

I learned to program iOS applications in SwiftUI. Learned about streaming audio, and learned a bunch of history in the process.

What's next for histonear

The next steps are including local storyteller's stories as an option. We could partner with local guides to deliver their engaging stories as an option to the AI generated one, and recompensate them with each story delivered. Also need to add more translations for more languages, and push notifications when you are near a historic place.
