Inspiration
One of our team members has a relative who has kidney disease but is still keen on finding employment opportunities. He has been facing difficulty finding a job as employers are either not empathetic or do not know how to accommodate him in the workplace. As such, we felt compelled to help build a solution that would help him
What it does
Hire4Good is a platform that helps Persons with Disabilities (PwD) find meaningful employment and access the resources they need to improve their lives.
How we built it
We started by researching the kidney disease in order to understand the problem statement better. Following that, we began gathering user stories and brainstorming what features each stakeholder (PwDs and employers) would want in our platform. Lastly, we proceeded to divide up responsibilities and code the platform itself.
Challenges we ran into
We were unable to implement all the features we wanted due to time constraints (Please check out our slides for more details on the idea!), and there is a lack of research into what features would appeal to employers.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built a functional website that allows users to log in, log out, create profiles, and facilitates job matching.
What we learned
We learned how to work under pressure in a team setting. It was an especially valuable experience to see how the different components of a website came together to form the complete product. In the future, we will definitely be more conscious of time constraints and plan accordingly.
What's next for Hire4Good
Implement the support group feature, integrate chat functionality into the platform for employers and talents, and improve on the existing features.
