Inspiration

My teammates and I are usually frustrated with job hunting as international students. And after we chatted with other classmates, we found out that most students were complaining about spending too much time crafting their resumes, cover letters and modifying them to fit different job requirements, which took a big chunk of time away from preparing interviews. And that was the moment we had the initial idea, build something that can benefit job seekers in today's competitive job market.

What it does

Our platform is designed to help job seekers stand out in a competitive job market. With our comprehensive tools and resources, you can easily build a winning resume, create a customized cover letter, improve your writing skills, and even translate your resume into different languages. In the current phrase, we have the "cover letter generator" function ready. Cover Letter Generator is a feature that offers a wide range of cover letter templates and guides to help users create customized and compelling cover letter that highlights their qualifications and aligns with the job requirements.

How we built it

We built the website using Django to connect GPT-3.5 model, and use react and express.js for the conventional application part. We integrated the app with stripe API and Google gmail oauth API for secure payment and login functions. We then deployed the app using Docker on AWS.

Challenges we ran into

This is the first time we built something that's a live website for everyone to use, so we keep security as the most important rule in mind. With that being said, we tried different ways to handle persisting data, and with different signup/login methods and eventually chose the one we are using right now. And then, we encountered challenges when deploying on AWS, and we fixed them using Nginx and Certbot.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are so excited that we turn a simple idea we had into a real website that can help millions of others.

What we learned

First and foremost we learned was teamwork makes the dream work. We also learned to think from the users' view. Understanding users' pain points and then the website we build can be truly helpful. Another thing we learned was never to stop learning, building, and progressing. Technologies are developing so fast nowadays, and by using them the right way, we can benefit from them hugely.

What's next for Hire me now

We will keep developing the other three core features. "Ai Writing Helper, Interview Question Guidance, Resume Translation" Ai Writing Helper, is a tool that helps users create a professional and competitive resume that showcases their skills, experiences, and accomplishments. Interview Question Guidance will guide users and help prepare behavioral questions. Resume translation helps multilingual users to prepare resumes for multiple job markets.
