Inspiration
We wanted to solve the issue of bias in the hiring process. We thought that a nice way to do this would be to make applications anonymous and show only qualifications and experience. Our team thought that this was similar to the experience of a blind date, which inspired us to base the app off of Tinder.
What it does
The app displays an applicant from a pool of applicants in the center of the screen. The user can then swipe left or right or click one of the two buttons. This displays a new applicant and increments acceptance/rejection counter correspondingly.
How we built it
We used React, HTML and CSS to display the page. For the logic, we used JavaScript/
Challenges we ran into
We wanted to implement a database of applicants using Flask and SQL. Since our team was new to web dev, we had trouble implementing the SQL database, and we decided to lower the scope by using simple JavaScript.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We learned how to use React and used it to make a swiping feature that the page itself responds to by displaying a new applicant.
What we learned
We learned how to use React. We also learned that in the future, we should learn how to use certain tools like Flask before the hackathon so that we are not learning things on the fly during the hackathon, at least on a basic level. That way we will at least know how to start.
What's next for Hire Me, Maybe
We want to implement a database of applicants using Flask and SQL. We also wanted to make new pages like a profile page, and sign in page. We also want another side of the app, where applicants can go to enter their qualifications.
