In a multicultural society, diversity sometimes leads to isolation, mistrust and prejudice. People in the same city often struggle to step in areas where the majority of people are different from themselves. We aim to reduce prejudice in these communities by helping people explore their city and create closer connections with people of different backgrounds. HiLocal is a platform that lets locals in a city volunteer to show other locals around their neighborhood. Users are presented with a map of their city, with pins that represent all available tours and activities. A user can choose one, select an available time, and be connected with the host. They can also choose to create their own tour. Our hope is that this platform builds community and a sense of belonging in multicultural cities.
