Inspiration
We were inspired by the idea of hiking up a mountain. Exploration can mean a lot of things, including physically exploring (actually climbing to a mountaintop) or exploring your own thoughts, feelings and habits (climbing your own 'mountain' to improve).
What it does
You are able to keep track of tasks you need to complete as well as write down any thoughts and feelings in your explorer's journal.
How we built it
This project was made entirely in Python using the pygame library.
Challenges we ran into
We are all complete beginners when it comes to programming, so it was difficult for us to just overall take an idea and translate it into a physical project. A lot of things that seemed simple on the surface ended up being fairly difficult to achieve once we really got into the process of implementing it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This is the first real software project any of us have made, so the fact that it is functional and meets the expectations we had laid out at the beginning of the event is a victory for us.
What we learned
No matter how simple something might seem, there are always a million little things that will throw you off.
What's next for Hiker's Journey
Polishing it off with a few more sprites and detailed animations, and perhaps an achievement system of some sort.
