Introduction

In this project, the aim was to find ways to foster coexistence with people in our communities and the natural world around us. Thus, the problem statement for the project was: How might we encourage individuals to value and appreciate the natural world through personal experiences with nature, empowerment through knowledge, and opportunities to take action for a more sustainable future?

What is the problem your solution addresses?

The problem highlighted in this scenario is the lack of access to nature and insufficient knowledge about local wildlife among the target audience. Although they hold personal values and societal pressure as key motivators to engage in environmentally conscious behaviors, lack of knowledge and financial issues act as barriers. Additionally, the users have an unmet need for more information about local wildlife, a feature that allows them to identify animals and plants, and gamification or social aspects to make a nature-related app more engaging. Therefore, there is a need to develop a nature-related app that provides information about local wildlife, engages users through gamification and social features, and encourages environmentally conscious behavior.

Why did you pick this solution, and how does it address the problem?

The solution presented is an app that helps users identify and learn more about nature while fostering personal connections with the natural world. The app includes a nature-scanner, gamified quizzes and missions, and a social aspect where users can share pictures of nature and interact with friends' posts. The design decisions made were based on user preferences and motivations, including protecting nature, personal values, and social sharing capabilities. The app's features align with these motivations and can help motivate users to engage in environmentally conscious behaviors.

To Conclude

The case study showed that people love spending time in nature, exploring local plants and animals. Our team learned valuable lessons from completing this case study, including how to collect and analyze data, form hypotheses, and try out solutions. These insights can be applied to future projects, allowing for a better understanding of problems and potential solutions that can be implemented in real-world scenarios.
