Inspiration
We were inspired by a popular game called "Higher or Lower" where two topics are shown and you have to guess whether it has higher or lower searches than the other.
What it does
It uses the REST countries API to gather the data on each country's population, and uses a random generator to pick out two countries. On a correct answer, a new country is drawn and is compared to the previous one while your score increases.
How we built it
We used HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and REST Countries API
Challenges we ran into
Setting up GitHub repository and learning to push/pull, learning CSS from scratch, learning what an API is, learning to connect API, learning JavaScript from scratch, rearranging elements via CSS, setting up functions to pull up new country after getting the correct answer, learning to make elements "hidden"
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud that we were able to do all this in a weekend. We are both new CS majors with almost no experience in web development and the project we completed was almost purely made up of entirely new concepts that we learned from scratch. There were some points where we almost gave up on the idea and went for an "easier" one but we stuck with it and I'm glad we did.
What we learned
HTML, CSS, JavaScript, API, perseverance, don't be afraid to ask for help, not everything can always look perfect especially in a short period of time
What's next for Higher or Lower - Population Edition
We can definitely improve the interface and make it look nicer. We could also implement different "game modes" such as higher or lower for values of different currencies.
