Inspiration
Age Of Empires is a childhood favorite and a huge inspiration to High Tide Sailor. Getting into tap you move games has brought some exciting mechanic. I've explored so many new ways of game making when creating the fishing mechanics and camera changing.
What it does
Travel the sea from coastal encampment to large cities. Start as a simple fisherman and grow your empire of Tradesman or Expert Explorer. Find Buried Treasures and complete Supply Runs to become the riches Sailor
How we built it
Using Focusing Interactions and Camera Changing APIs I've create a fully scalable exploration RPG game. Tapping around the ocean move the players boat and allow the player to travel from coast to coast. Custom UI engagement for selling caught fish and interacting with merchants, and tradesman. Player Persistent Variables to save the player progress and Asset Spawning to allow for boat customization.
Challenges we ran into
There are a lot of camera changes and UIs, Making sure the right player sees the right thing was a huge challenge. Making a game for 1 player is easy but making it multiplayer is a whole other mission.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm happy with how large the game can be expanded to I'm excited to add more cities, more fish, fishing poles, bait, hooks, charms and future events like sea monsters. I'm also very proud of the new mobile focused mechanics I've collected during the creation of the game.
What we learned
I learn a lot about the focused interaction and camera apis. New interactions that have boosted my mobile game making like the Fishing Mini Game.
What's next for High Tide Sailor
A map extension is the first of many future updates, adding many more cities and detail. Sea Monsters is another addition I want to include along with ship battles when unlocking pvp ships.
