Inspiration
Hidn Message is a mobile application that allows users to create virtual messages that are tied to their physical environments. Messages, ranging from a love note written in the sky to back-alley graffiti, are contained in a remotely accessed physical location for other users to discover. Using Augmented Reality technology, the phone screen becomes a window into this hidden world, and the gateway to a community of like-minded explorers. By merging the digital and the physical, the application seeks to use technology to facilitate social, urban discovery.
What it does
Hidn is a decentralized mobile application that allows users to create virtual messages and works of art that are tied to their physical environments and permanently stored on the Blockchain. Hidn Messages (HMs), ranging from a love note written in the sky to back-alley graffiti, are contained at a geocached physical location for other users to discover. Using Augmented Reality (AR), the smartphone becomes a window into this Hidn World, and the gateway to a community of like-minded explorers, merging the digital and physical to facilitate social and artistic expression throughout the globe.
How we built it
This app has not been built yet but we plan to have alpha app on the Apple App Store by April 2022.
In our beta version of the app, our network will be powered by the Blockchain, which will work in tandem with private, centralized servers to create an unparalleled experience for our users and partners. The public Blockchain is used for anything relating to cryptocurrency, transactions, transparency, censorship resistance, and ownership, which absolutely cannot be compromised. Our private servers will be used for storage, latency, ultra fast response time, and access to high resolution images related to HMs and OHMs
Challenges we ran into
As we roll out the Hidn app, we want every Hidn message to be high quality and a great experience, therefore we are going to grow with the technology for what file formats we allow.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- $40,000 investment in 2016
- 250 Customer List for Pre-download
- Early advocate for MATIC network
What we learned
Hidn combines the interface and share-ability of Snapchat with the urban-explorer mentality of the millennial generation. Although, AR and Geo-cached messaging exists on a small scale between individual users, a social media forum for public, virtual, “Graffiti” does not. Applications like “Wallame” offer an open source forum where AR messages are available to view anywhere, exhibited through an Instagram-style newsfeed. This approach to the market outsources social interaction to other social media forums and eliminates the exploration aspect of geo-caching your message. Hidn places the physical discovery of content in the hands of the user- this forces the stationary consumer to get up and leave their house in order to experience the App. Hidn hopes to harness this spirit of adventure to have users build an unseen world, only revealed by their handheld device. When arriving at a new city, users should consider checking out popular pins in order to experience the culture from a local perspective. Each city or town’s pins will offer a different conversation, a different perspective of life on the ground. Passive users will receive notifications when passing a nearby pin- discovering a note from a loved one, a secret marquee-less bar, or a mural reimagining a building’s façade.
What's next for Hidn
This mode of consumer interaction opens the opportunity for numerous sponsored partnerships. Be it on the public or private company networks, organizations will be able to use Hidn’s technology in order to expose their brand to clients, or provide incentive in an exciting and engaging medium. In the public sphere, brands can purchase a top listing at a single high traffic pin location- offering mass exposure with a creative delivery. These sponsored listings can also be sponsored design contests, or commissioned designs from well-known artists. In the private servers, companies can provide a self-contained incentive activity through a corporate scavenger hunt. Companies can also offer more ephemeral marketing campaigns through branded promotions or prizes at rapidly expiring pins.
