Inspiration
We wanted to take the familiar idea of Hide & Seek and turn it into a more creative and interactive mobile game.
The inspiration came from the idea of camouflage — instead of simply finding an object to hide behind, what if you could actually change your appearance to match the place where you want to hide?
That became the core idea behind Hide & Seek: Color Camouflage.
Players don't have to follow a fixed hiding color. They can paint their character and decide how they want to blend into their surroundings, giving them freedom to create their own hiding strategy.
What it does
Hide & Seek: Color Camouflage is a casual 3D mobile game where players must hide from a seeker by painting their character to blend into the environment.
The main gameplay loop is:
Find a hiding spot → Paint yourself → Blend in → Stay hidden
Players can:
- 🎨 Paint their character with different colors.
- 🖌️ Choose where and how to apply the colors.
- 🏠 Hide anywhere in the environment.
- 👀 Observe the surroundings and find the best camouflage.
- 🫣 Try to become visually difficult for the seeker to detect.
- 🏃 Move around and change their hiding strategy.
- 🔍 Search for hidden players when playing as the seeker.
The interesting part is that the player creates their own camouflage.
Instead of having one predefined hiding spot or one predefined color, players can experiment with different colors and locations to decide how they want to hide.
How we built it
We built the game using Unity, focusing on mobile performance, simple controls, colorful 3D environments, and a fast gameplay loop.
The core system was designed around the relationship between the player's character and the environment.
The player can:
- Explore the environment.
- Find a potential hiding location.
- Paint their character to match the surroundings.
- Position themselves strategically.
- Try to remain undetected until the round is over.
We designed the painting and camouflage system to make the player an active part of the hiding strategy rather than simply selecting a hiding spot.
We also integrated RevenueCat to handle in-app purchases and monetization.
The game was developed in Unity and shipped as a real Android game on Google Play during the Shipaton 2026 submission period.

Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was making the painting and camouflage mechanic feel useful while keeping the game simple.
We needed the player to understand:
- Where they could hide.
- How their painted character would look in that location.
- Which colors would help them blend in.
- How much of their character should be visible.
- How to make the game challenging without making it frustrating.
Another challenge was creating environments where players have enough freedom to experiment with different hiding strategies.
We also had to balance gameplay, visual quality, mobile performance, monetization, and development time while building the game within the Shipaton deadline.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud that we took the game from an idea to a fully playable and publicly released mobile game.
Some things we're particularly proud of:
- 🎮 Built the complete game in Unity.
- 🎨 Created a paint-based camouflage mechanic.
- 🖌️ Allowed players to create their own camouflage instead of using a fixed appearance.
- 🫣 Created gameplay around hiding anywhere in the environment.
- 🌍 Built colorful 3D environments designed around hiding and camouflage.
- 🔍 Created both hiding and seeking gameplay.
- 💰 Integrated RevenueCat for in-app purchases.
- 📱 Tested and shipped the game on Android.
- 🚀 Published the game on Google Play during Shipaton.
The biggest accomplishment for us is simple:
We shipped the game.
What we learned
We learned that giving players creative control over one simple mechanic can make a familiar game much more interesting.
The painting system taught us that camouflage isn't only about choosing the right color. It's also about where you hide, what you paint, how you position yourself, and how much of your character is visible.
We also learned how important visual feedback is in a game like this. Players should immediately understand whether their camouflage makes sense without needing complicated instructions.
From the development side, Shipaton taught us to prioritize the core experience and keep moving:
Build → Test → Learn → Improve → Ship
Integrating RevenueCat also gave us practical experience designing monetization as part of the overall game experience.
What's next for Hide & Seek: Color Camouflage
We see the current version as the foundation for a much larger game.
Our next steps include:
- 🌍 More environments and themes.
- 🎨 More painting and camouflage options.
- 🖌️ More creative ways to paint the character.
- 🫣 New hiding mechanics.
- 🔍 More seeker challenges.
- 🎮 New game modes.
- 🏆 Progression and rewards.
- 👥 More multiplayer-style experiences.
- 🔄 More replayability.
- 💰 Further monetization experiments using RevenueCat.
- 📈 Improvements based on player feedback and gameplay data.
Our goal is to keep expanding the idea of creative camouflage and turn Hide & Seek into a game where every round can produce a different hiding strategy.
