Inspiration

I took inspiration from a classic party game, Hide & Seek, and i thinked about it in a new form.

What it does

After you start a game, with 2 or more friends up to 10 per round, you have 120 seconds to search for a valid spot where to "hide" before the time runs out. The valid spots are always the same amount of players -1 in every round. Let's say you play with 4 friends, you will search for 3 valid spots out of 20 spawned randomly in the map.You have to be fast, if a friend find a valid spot before you, that spot wont be valid anymore! That means that only one player at the end will be the king of the game!

How we built it

I made everything using the tools that the Meta Horizon World Desktop Editor gives. Asset, Gizmo and GenAi Content. In addition to that, i'm a professional 3D artist, so i manage to do some assets and graphics by myself.

Challenges we ran into

As a 3D artist and not a pure developer, the biggest challenge was making a solid base for the scripts. I wanted to focus on quality of life, trying to avoid bugs and make the game as fluid and engaging as possible.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Just by making everything working good and fine as i planned makes me really proud. The freedom and the help that the Editor gives you is limited just by your imagination. The game aspect and the gameplay overcome my dreams!

What we learned

It was a really good challenge and experiment, made me learn new cool tools, scripts and made me think about the player perspective.

What's next for Hide & Seek!

A lot of crazy update are already in the works! Unfortunately i have no time to implement those feature by the time of the end of this challenge, as a full time worker and working as solo developer. But here a sneak peak of what's next in the future eheheh :

  • Collectible bonuses and malus randomly spawned in the map (Magic speed boost, 50% movement for 20 second.) (Freeze malus, stop other players for 10 seconds) (Gold Star, Highligts a valid spot locaton) (Squid, limit other players visibility for 10 seconds)
  • NPC Enemies! a few Skeleton or zombies will walk randomly in the map, chasing players and eliminate them.
  • Quests and unique items : Collect coins while playing and complete quests to collect unique items for your inventory. ....And lot more! New maps, new items and new feature!

Thanks to everyone who would like to leave a message or a feedback, or just like and support! Unfortunately, i wont be able to work on the project for personal reasons from October 19th. So, the last version of this game will be this one. I tried to do as much as i can with the time i had, that's why im posting directly the final version. Any feedback would be precious anyways, i'm planning to update the game after the contest!
