Hidden Gems

Inspiration

The inspiration behind Hidden Gems came from the idea of combining the excitement of treasure hunting with the growing popularity of NFTs and blockchain technology. We wanted to create an engaging, interactive experience that encourages exploration and discovery, allowing users to find and collect digital treasures in the real world.

What it does

Hidden Gems is a geo-location-based NFT hunting game that allows users to pin NFTs to specific locations on a map and collect them by visiting those locations. Users can view their NFT collection, pin new NFTs, and explore the map to find and collect hidden treasures.

How we built it

We built Hidden Gems using a combination of modern web technologies and blockchain. The front end is developed with React and Material-UI for a seamless user experience. We use Google Maps API for geo-location tracking and display. The back end is powered by Firebase for real-time database and storage needs. The blockchain component is implemented using smart contracts on the Avalanche fuji network, which handles the minting, pinning, and collecting of NFTs. We used Chainlink functions to double check if the user is 5 meters from the nft.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges was implementing accurate real-time geo-tracking and integrating it with the blockchain logic. Initially, we encountered issues with ensuring precise location updates and handling large data sets. We decided to go with a web application instead of a mobile app to leverage the ease of use and accessibility provided by web browsers like Brave, which also supports crypto wallets natively. Additionally, integrating Firebase with blockchain smart contracts and ensuring smooth communication between these technologies was a complex task.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of successfully integrating multiple technologies to create a seamless and engaging user experience. Overcoming the challenges of real-time geo-tracking and integrating it with blockchain to ensure secure and verifiable transactions was a significant accomplishment. Additionally, creating a user-friendly interface that allows users to explore, pin, and collect NFTs with ease is a highlight of our project.

What we learned

Throughout the development of Hidden Gems, we learned a lot about the intricacies of blockchain technology and smart contracts, particularly how to integrate them with real-time web applications. We gained valuable experience in handling geo-location data and ensuring its accuracy. The project also taught us the importance of a smooth user experience and the challenges of combining various technologies into a cohesive application.

What's next for Hidden Gems

The next steps for Hidden Gems include enhancing the user experience by adding more interactive features and expanding the NFT ecosystem. We plan to introduce more customization options for NFTs, improve the accuracy and efficiency of geo-tracking, and explore partnerships with other NFT platforms and artists. Additionally, we aim to develop a mobile app version to reach a broader audience and provide a more immersive treasure-hunting experience. I want to make it fully cross chain as well
