Inspiration
With so many distractions, it is getting harder to get things done. The "HI IMPACT" Productivity Booster is a tool to get more important things done in less time.
What it does
More than an app, the "HI IMPACT" Productivity Booster teaches a mindset that helps achieve higher levels of meaningful productivity. In summary, DO THE MOST IMPACTFUL TASK THAT IS QUICKEST FIRST. I focus on impactful tasks as they are those that "move the needle" in your life. Once we get into a "flow" state, it becomes easier to continue onto more complex and time-consuming tasks. The next tasks to complete are those with "HI IMPACT" but require more time or effort. These two areas are the most important part of the system. The tasks to complete go in this order:
Q1: HI IMPACT, LOW TIME/EFFORT Q2: HI IMPACT, HI TIME/EFFORT Q3: LOW IMPACT, LOW TIME/EFFORT Q4: LOW IMPACT, LOW TIME/EFFORT
There are four quadrants to enter tasks, which are then summarized for each, using Claude LLM to give motivational tips along the way. There is also a motivational image created related to the task(s) in Q1.
How I built it
This is a remix of the Productivity Booster by Brian H. Hough (@BrianHHough). But, I removed the chat function and entered the 4-quadrant model that I use to be most productive. I then added the other components, four generative text fields to motivate and give tips, while clarifying the order of the MOST IMPACTFUL tasks.
Challenges I ran into
If the generative text is based on Q1-4, PartyRock will require that all these fields are completed before generating text. That was problematic here, as the tasks in Q1 and Q2 are areas to focus on, especially Q1. For this reason, I created separate text fields for each quadrant, but this was a benefit in disguise, as it allowed me to include more productivity tips for the task in Q1 (along with the motivational image), while Q2-4 have successively less tips/comments.
Another problem I encountered when experimenting with PartyRock is that too many reloads can occur if one user input area is referenced in too many generative language or image fields.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm proud of this method of task organization. I have tried numerous ways to organize myself, but I have found that this "Q1 WHAT IS THE MOST IMPACTFUL, QUICKEST TASK?" approach has led to great and transformational outcomes in my life. I am happy to share this with you and hope you have similar benefits.
What I learned
Use of generative components should be judicious, to minimize the resources used, while requiring too many fields for a result can also hamper the usability. As a psychiatrist, I treat many patients with ADHD and have found that the principles of this approach work well. I am including a link to an article I wrote on Medium to explain this further.
What's next for "HI IMPACT" Productivity Booster?
I plan to continue using this system daily.
