Inspiration
Newborns can only communicate through crying, leaving parents to guess their needs. Meanwhile, many mothers navigate physical recovery, hormonal changes, and emotional stress after childbirth. This project aims to balance these two realities by giving babies a clearer “voice” while helping protect mothers from postpartum burnout and depression.
What it does
me n ma is a speculative caregiving system that detects and interprets biological signals from both baby and mother. Using wearable sensor patches, the system translates signals like digestion, hunger, sleep, stress, and hormonal recovery into clear insights through a mobile app and a holographic cradle monitor.
How we built it
The project was designed using Figma and Figma make to prototype the mobile app, dashboards, and interaction flows. We created interfaces for baby health monitoring, maternal wellbeing tracking, and predictive alerts, along with a conceptual holographic visual monitor.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge was simplifying complex biological data into a calm and intuitive interface suitable for sleep-deprived parents while keeping the concept futuristic but believable.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We created a concept that addresses both newborn communication and maternal wellbeing, turning invisible biological signals into insights that support caregivers.
What we learned
We learned how speculative design can explore new forms of sensory awareness in caregiving and how thoughtful design can translate complex health data into meaningful experiences.
What's next for Project Me&Ma
Future work could explore deeper integration with emerging biosensors, AI health insights, and expanded caregiver sharing to support families more effectively.
