IN PERSON
Inspiration
We were inspired by the specific part of the prompt that acknowledged the unfamiliarities of technology and aimed to make it more accessible for people--specifically older generations who often struggle to navigate through new technologies and applications. We learned about UI/UX principles, and ways to make our app user-friendly for our target audience. We designed our project through Figma, and faced challenges relating to making our app seamless and flow smoothly, since we wanted to make it as simple as possible for or users.
What it does
Hey Doc streamlines the process of making health and fitness habits more accessible to older generations who are unfamiliar with technology. Users have the option to upload their medical records to prepare customized routines, or simply chat with our AI Doc who will give recommendations based on user's symptoms. To make the app more accessible to those with visual impairment issues and other sensory challenges, there are options to change the visual sizes of words and graphics, as well as having text-to-speech features.
How we built it
We started by sketching out the layout of our app by hand and then translated it into Figma. Our low-fi wireframes were evaluated by mentors and adjusted based on feedback and insight from workshops.
Challenges we ran into
Since we wanted to make Hey Doc easy to use for those unfamiliar with technology, it was a consistent challenge for us to keep a clean, simple, and intuitive layout while highlighting the unique features our app offers. We overcame these challenges through productive conversations with mentors and using trial and error to make our app as efficient and user-friendly as possible.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we were able to incorporate accessibility into the app, and tailor its features toward older audiences. Examining each step of the flow from an outside perspective led us to making changes to element sizes, improving color contrasts, and designing clearer transitions between changes.
What we learned
We learned about ways to make apps more user-friendly, especially for those unfamiliar with technology. We realized that there are many nuances when it comes to design, down to the specifics of color schemes and layouts. And importantly, we learned how to utilize/incorporate market research in consideration of UI/UX design. All of these factors combined work together to generate a positive user experience.
What's next for Hey Doc
Next, Hey Doc can expand its impact by being used by corporations, along with individuals. By introducing it to places such as retirement homes or other organizations that focus on assisting older generations in their day to day lives and healthcare needs, Hey Doc can help out many more communities.
