Inspiration

HexHash is a slightly spooky real-time roguelike. Its atmosphere comes from exploring the unknown: limited visibility, nearby enemies, and the tension of deciding what to do next while the dungeon keeps moving.

What it does

Explore a dark hexagonal labyrinth with a lantern. Read enemy behavior and decide when to advance, flee, or fight. Heartbeat sounds, background music, and combat effects bring the dungeon to life. Players can also explore an endless mode and customize their cloak colors.

How it was built

HexHash was built with Unity and C#, exported through Xcode, and tested on an iPhone 11.

RevenueCat's Unity SDK manages a permanent cosmetic cloak-color purchase, entitlement checks, and purchase restoration. Cloak colors change appearance only and provide no gameplay advantage.

The current demonstration uses RevenueCat Test Store. No real payment is collected.

Challenges and lessons

Development involved fixing text readability on phone screens, improving performance, and testing the purchase flow on a physical device. These steps showed why mobile games need testing beyond the Unity editor.

What's next

Further improvements will focus on game balance, performance, and making the atmosphere and controls feel even better on mobile.
