Project Story – Herotory, Track 1 and 2 ✨ Inspiration
When we learned how many veterans like Brian come home only to face homelessness, trauma, unemployment, and total isolation, we knew something was deeply wrong. Brian sacrificed both legs in Afghanistan to save his team — yet after returning home, he was left without support. His real battle began after the war.
That reality inspired Herotory: an AI-powered platform to guide veterans through resources, recovery, and reintegration. No veteran should have to fight alone once the uniform comes off.
🛠️ What We Learned
Throughout this project, we explored how veterans struggle with:
Delayed benefits and complex systems
Lack of mental health support
Difficulty finding jobs due to physical or emotional trauma
Homelessness and food insecurity
Social isolation and lack of family support
We realized technology alone isn’t enough — empathy and accessibility must be at the core.
🚧 How We Built It
We built Herotory around one question: How can AI guide a veteran from crisis to stability?
We designed a system that:
Identifies veteran needs quickly using natural language understanding
Finds resources instantly (jobs, housing, therapy, benefits)
Offers emotional and psychological guidance
Provides emergency escalation paths
Gives veterans personalized daily support
This required thinking not just like developers — but like human advocates.
🔥 Challenges We Faced
Building Herotory wasn’t easy. Our biggest challenges included:
Ensuring the AI responds with accuracy and compassion
Designing for veterans with disabilities, including mobility issues and PTSD
Integrating multiple resource datasets
Creating a system that works even with limited user input
Keeping everything simple, fast, and accessible
These challenges shaped Herotory into something meaningful and mission-driven.
