Inspiration
The idea for Heroes, Incorporated is based on a fusion of games like Darkest Dungeon, Knights of Pen and Paper, and Papers, Please. I liked the idea of taking dungeon-diving and reframing it as a management sim about hiring, budgeting, risk, and profit.
What it does
This submission is a complete design package for Heroes, Incorporated, not the finished game itself. It includes a comprehensive plan for building the game for mobile within Meta Horizon Worlds, including the game design, production plan, player journey, and visual concept direction.
How we built it
I developed the concept through four connected documents: a Game Design Document, Production Plan, Player Journey Map, and Visual Concepts Package. Together, they define the gameplay loop, onboarding flow, visual identity, production scope, and practical path to building the game.
Challenges we ran into
As a software engineer who has built successful games and VR experiences, I was extremely enthusiastic about tackling the GDD and Production Plan. I was more nervous about the Player Journey Map and Visual Concepts Package, so I ended up putting even more effort into those documents. I used AI to help produce some images, but also spent a lot of time creating visually appealing components in Figma, which I learned for this project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I’m proud that the final package feels cohesive across design, production, player experience, and art direction. The visual documents became much stronger than I expected, and the project now has a clear identity.
What we learned
I learned that visual communication can be just as important as the core game idea. Building the journey map and visual package helped me understand the game more clearly, especially how the fantasy-corporate tone should appear through UI, characters, and environments.
