Inspiration

The outdated hotel industry requires innovation. The check in/out process is too slow and we need to virtualize this process. With our first customer being a hotel from Choice Hotels, we launched Hermes. Our inspiration lies in the fact that the team has experience in hotels.

What it does

An IOS application that speeds the check in/out process. Our app also allows you to control the room temperature, lights and acts as a key access for the door.

How we built it

We built this using swift/xcode and hardware to build the door lock and work the lights with Lutron HomeWorks.

Challenges we ran into

The first challenge was connecting backend database and the front end. It destroyed our first app and we were required to make a new one. However, with a successful connection our app was running smooth and we're ready to ship it since we've got our first customer. The Lutron hardware was also a challenge, connecting that with the app was difficult but doable. Our last challenge was the Google Cloud Database that wouldn't connect with our server.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We have our first paying customer! We will demo the app at a physical hotel and we're proud to have built a fully functioning app in less than a weekend.

What we learned

Some of our teammembers were first time hackers, they learned the entire process. We learned UX/UI design through swift as well as data base.
