Herizon (Her + Horizon)
Inspiration
Accepting your first job offer is exciting - but high-stakes.
For many new grads, especially women and gender minorities, an offer decision impacts debt, stability, and long-term earning potential. Even small salary differences can compound over time.
We built Herizon to turn uncertainty into clarity -helping users see beyond the offer letter and toward their financial horizon.
What It Does
Herizon is an inclusive job-offer simulator that transforms an offer into actionable insight.
Users enter:
- Salary, bonus, and equity
- Location
- Monthly expenses
- Savings and loan balance
- Optional equity-gap and career-break scenarios
Herizon provides:
Real Take-Home Estimate
An estimated monthly take-home income based on total compensation and taxes.
Cost-of-Living Adjusted Value
Normalizes compensation across cities to make offers comparable.
Financial Safety Buffer
Shows how many months a user can sustain themselves using their savings.
Loan Repayment Timeline
Visualizes how long it may take to pay off student loans under current income assumptions.
Equity Gap Simulation
Demonstrates how pay differences can impact long-term financial stability.
AI Negotiation Draft
Generates a personalized negotiation email and talking points based on the offer.
Accessible Audio Summary
Converts the financial analysis into a clear, human-sounding audio summary for accessibility and easy review.
How We Built It
- Frontend: React + GSAP (animated, accessibility-focused UI)
- Backend: Python FastAPI (offer analysis engine)
- APIs: Gemini (negotiation generation) + ElevenLabs (audio summary)
We focused on clarity, inclusion, and meaningful AI integration.
Challenges
- Connecting React frontend with FastAPI backend smoothly, including handling async requests and error states
- Managing CORS issues between local development and deployed environments
- Integrating Gemini and ElevenLabs APIs reliably while handling API latency and response formatting
- Structuring backend responses so financial analysis, negotiation drafts, and audio outputs remained consistent
- Deploying the backend on Vultr and configuring environment variables securely
- Ensuring frontend-to-backend connectivity worked correctly after deployment
Accomplishments
- Delivered a functional minimum viable product (MVP) within 24 hours
- Designed and implemented a full-stack architecture (React + FastAPI) end-to-end
- Successfully integrated and orchestrated multiple external APIs (Gemini + ElevenLabs)
- Deployed a working cloud-hosted backend and resolved real-world connectivity issues
