Inspiration

What it does

Main project goals: We focused on the subtopic: PROTECT THE WORLD’S CULTURAL AND NATURAL HERITAGE Preserve Plymouth’s culture and heritage Inform people of Plymouth’s historical relevance and the role it played in many major events Help visitors, tourists, or anyone new to the city find landmarks they could be interested in visiting

How we built it

How we achieved these goals: Created an interactive map web page available for people to use Having pins on main historical and culturally significant landmarks to point them out to users The pins are interactive, so when the user hovers over a pin a pop-up appears with the name of that landmark and a short summary of what the landmark is and a basic overview of its significance.

Challenges we ran into

Pins on the map would overlap and not be able to access the one underneath, had to spend more time spacing out pins to make them accessible. Making the words appear on the screen and wrap where we wanted it to go was tedious and difficult at times. Text would not go in the text box for multiple hours. Coordinates for the map kept changing seemingly without reason and made it so we had to keep re-plotting our pins on the map.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

What we learned

Upon completing this experience we have worked as a team, by dividing tasks up and allocating them between us. This is a skill that will be transferrable to our future workplaces and as we continue through university. If we were to do this challenge again, we would first consider the help available to us such as APIs, as if we would have used them in this project it would have been a lot easier, we should have considered that not everything had to be done from scratch.
