Inspiration
Many women, especially in underrepresented communities, don’t have easy access to education about their own bodies leading preventable health challenges. I personally did not have access to enough information and realised later in life that I had PCOS which was a challenge that could have been easily prevented. I am inspired to build something that will help many young women to get access to this information.
What it does
It is a web application that helps women get access to a self checker, in terms of quizes that helps them to detrmine the probability of having the said illness. It also has a step by step process for self breast exam.
How we built it
I built the app using python language and Flask framework. I used gemini to analyze the answers users gave to the questions and get a recommendation.
Challenges we ran into
I initially wanted to include location for the application whereby a user with a higher probability would be recommended to the nearest gynaecologist. I faced a challenge using google maps api to get that information so i scrapped the location feature entirely.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud that i was able to use the analysis function with gemini which made it easier for my project.
What we learned
I have learned that reproductive health is complex, i may have have simplified it to only three forms but there so much more to cover. I also learnt that the impact technology has on reproductive health and women's health in general is huge.
What's next for Herhealth
The next thing for us is to get a location feature which would help the users to find access to nearest hospitals.
