Inspiration
We were inspired by the quiet satisfaction of bringing order to chaos and by minimalist games that create depth through simplicity rather than systems.
What it does
HerdLight is a calm, top-down herding game where you guide a border collie to gently separate black and white sheep into their correct pastures using only movement and patience.
How we built it
We built HerdLight with Gemini-3-flash-preview on simple mechanics, subtle feedback, and restrained visuals, layering behavior, sound, and atmosphere to create depth without clutter.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was keeping the game engaging while resisting the urge to add features, UI, or complexity that would break its minimalistic feel.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We created a playable experience that feels expressive and rewarding with no timers, no scores, and almost no UI.
What we learned
Minimalism requires more intention than complexity—small changes in behavior, sound, and pacing can create meaningful depth.
What's next for HerdLight
We plan to expand HerdLight with more handcrafted levels, gentle environmental variation, and continued refinement of sheep behavior while preserving its calm, minimal spirit.
