Inspiration
This came from a coffee break while I and some colleagues were sharing some good open options during these hard times, commenting especially about their options to get the product/service (delivery, drive-thru operation, drive-thru combined with lockers, etc).
What it does
It allows you to see which products and service are available around your home and how to get them without going outside; you may find some product or service closer which allows going there to pick it or discover interesting delivery options.
How I built it
A spreadsheet inserted on glide (glideapps.com); from there, I just split into 5 maps (categories) where the user can navigate in map or table mode, plus filter options by delivery approach (delivery, reservation, online service, etc) and the possibility to add a new place.
Challenges I ran into
Thinking about spread this as an open-source thing, I tried to build something on Firebase - but I'm just a designer, not a developer. So, when the integration part came (gMaps), I just cried haha - before that, I was already thinking about "how to manage the inputs received from a new user inside the 'database'?".
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
It's running on http://blu-help.glideapp.io/ ! And it was shared with all people with I work with (+-900 people) plus some friends, which scaled the inputs in there very quickly.
What I learned
That wikimapia cannot be the only way to create open-source collaborative maps.
What's next for Herd Helper
Let's get some devs that can bring this idea from the "app" to the web! I can support with the UI design, UX and some CSS, but Herd Helper is missing developers which can define a good approach to build it plus code it!
