🌿 About the Project – HerbVerse
## Inspiration
The idea for HerbVerse was born from observing how difficult it is for people to access trusted natural wellness products and practitioners in one place. We also noticed that small-scale herb vendors often struggle with visibility and tech access. HerbVerse bridges that gap — empowering vendors and giving customers a reliable, all-in-one natural wellness hub.
## What it does
HerbVerse is a mobile-first marketplace built with React Native and Expo.
🌱 Customers can:
- Browse and search herbal products (teas, supplements, wellness bundles)
- Book natural therapy consultations
- Read reviews and track their orders
🌾 Vendors can:
- Create a profile and list products/services
- Manage inventory and pricing
- View basic sales insights (in future updates)
## How we built it
- Expo (React Native)
- TypeScript
- JavaScript
Expo made it easy to test across Android and iOS devices without needing separate builds.
## Challenges we ran into
- Building two distinct user flows (vendor and customer) with conditional rendering
- Handling permissions for features like image uploads
- Managing deep linking/navigation for multiple tabs within one unified app
- Simulating backend logic in early prototyping before full deployment
## Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Built and tested on both iOS and Android using Expo
- Implemented clean, responsive layouts for wellness plan listings and vendor dashboards
- Role-based access works smoothly — vendors don’t see customer-only features and vice versa
- Added logic for displaying "recommended" product bundles based on curated data
## What we learned
- Importance of modular component design for faster iteration
- Balancing simplicity and flexibility in the user experience for a wellness marketplace
- Power of Expo for fast prototyping and real device testing
## What's next for HerbVerse
- Integrating real-time messaging between customers and vendors
- Adding mobile payment support (Stripe, M-Pesa, Google Pay)
- Geolocation features for local vendor discovery
- Launching curated educational content on herbs and their benefits
- Publishing the app to Google Play and App Store via Expo EAS Build
HerbVerse aims to be the go-to app for conscious consumers and herbal vendors — where nature meets technology.
