Inspiration
We are familiar with stories of women who are lauded for doing-it-all, for managing their homes while sustaining a successful career. However, reality is seldom so sanguine. Holding women to such high standards is unrealistic. Our platform lets them seek child care assistance on a flexible basis, thus easing their burdens.
What it does :
Provide connectivity between working moms who require assistance in childcare and caregivers who can provide such services in the same locality.
How we built it
1- Designed wireframes to envision the work flow. 2- HTML page integrated with CSS for enhancing aesthetic and react.js for interactivity. 3- Referenced github and documentation to understand unfamiliar functions 4- Created a prototype of main screens in the web app
Challenges we ran into
1- Lack of detailed data on problems mother face, its causes and reasons. Statistics on the matter would have further informed our solution. However, with HeraWeHearYou, we will be able to make our own learnings. 2- Initially, we thought of implementing the prototype as a mobile app on flutter, despite no prior experience. While we were able to learn by experimentation to implement basic elements, more complex features such as a dynamic job selection require more time than a 1 day hackathon. We strive to learn it as we work further on the project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Spent time brainstorming the idea in depth so we could come up with specific and subtle concerns mothers might have. Despite minimal experience with app development before, we were able to get a strong foundation of its functioning and build a prototype
What we learned
Designing a solution to a social issue and translating it to a technical system. App development and web development methods using flutter and react.js. Creating a user-friendly interface, and the importance of iterative prototyping in design.
