Welcome to HERA, where we celebrate women around the world! Our name isn't just a label; it's a tribute to the essence of womanhood, inspired by the formidable Greek goddess Hera. HERA stands not only for her legacy but also for "Her Era," symbolizing the pivotal moment we're in, where women's voices and stories are more important than ever.

What it does

HERA's immersive experience begins with a click on one of the six markers representing the continents. Each marker acts as a portal to a world of knowledge, presenting you with five engaging questions crafted to illuminate the achievements and contributions of women from that region. These questions delve deep into history, science, arts, and activism, offering a diverse array of perspectives and insights.

As you navigate through the quiz, you'll uncover the stories of remarkable women whose legacies have shaped cultures, societies, and civilizations. From ancient matriarchs to modern-day pioneers, HERA's questions transcend time and geography, inviting you to connect with the struggles and triumphs of women from around the globe. Upon completing the quiz, you'll receive a concise yet illuminating summary of the woman behind the questions, providing context and depth to her story. Through HERA's interactive quizzes, you'll not only expand your knowledge but also gain a newfound appreciation for the indomitable spirit of women throughout history.

How we built it

HERA's development integrated Python, Flask, and Google Cloud for storing JSON data. Using JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, we designed user interfaces complemented by Photoshop and Leaflet.js for visuals and interactive maps. Git and GitHub facilitated collaboration, while tools like Visual Studio Code and IDLE streamlined development. The result? A seamless platform inviting users to explore women's history effortlessly.

Challenges we ran into

HERA's journey wasn't without its challenges. With three first-time hackathon participants, all novices in frontend development, we faced a steep learning curve mastering Flask, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. Balancing the demands of backend logic while ensuring seamless frontend integration tested our limits. As we delved into uncharted territories, we grappled with sleepless nights and survived on a steady diet of caffeine and snacks, transforming our coding sessions into a culinary adventure. Yet, despite the hurdles, our determination fueled our progress, and with each hurdle overcome, we grew more proficient and resilient. In the end, our perseverance paid off, as HERA emerged as a testament to our dedication and newfound skills.
