This is an AI short film that I originally created for Runway Gen:48, however, I felt it would be a great fit to submit to the Chroma Awards!
This is a dramatic tale of lovers separated by class. I always like to begin with a character, because I believe that's the strongest proponent of a story. I already had one in mind, a goddess, and that made starting easier, allowing me to focus on shaping the story. The brief's requirements—a character, a location, and a mysterious item—provided direction, leading to a cool, eerie ending with a jar of eyeballs.
Using tools like Runway, Google's Wisk, Imagen 3, and Midjourney, I navigated challenges by getting creative with close-ups and separate shots. My wife ensured cultural and linguistic authenticity, and I used ElevenLabs (with its amazing Voice Design!) for narration and sound effects. I don't personally speak Hindi, so I used a lot of Google Translate to form a base narration that I then ran past my wife, who does speak the language. I always am fascinated with creating films in languages other than my own because I just love languages and how much they can influence the atmosphere and tone of a piece!
In DaVinci Resolve, I added film grain and anamorphic blurs to play with the aesthetic, embracing the idiosyncrasies of imperfect footage.
Inspired by Indian epics like 'Jodhaa Akbar' and 'Padmaavat,' I wanted the story to feel like a mythological tale, but also like a sort of bittersweet love story, since those are the ones that I loved; the ones that twinge at your heartstrings.
