Inspiration
As Undergraduate Teaching Assistants for introductory computer science courses, we noticed that many students struggle to find companions within their courses for groups, studying, and other much needed support.
What it does
HenHome uploads your name, school email, and Canvas Access Token to our database, and searches for students with a similar course load. It then displays your matches' names, emails, and shared courses in a small popup. Users can also find more information about the program and receive help generating their Canvas Access Token in the About and Help tabs.
How we built it
We used NiceGUI for the front-end, and mongodb and canvasapi for the back-end.
Challenges we ran into
We had zero experience with NiceGUI and mongodb, so we spent several difficult hours learning to use them. Because of this, we couldn't spend as much time on improving the look of our site as we'd wished.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Despite having no experience with the technologies we used, we created a great website that achieves our main goals for our project. The strength of our determination and teamwork shone through.
What we learned
With this being our first hackathon, we learned much about time management, leadership, and what is actually possible to do in only 24 hours. We had a fantastic experience and are excited to participate again in the future!
What's next for HenHome
We want to improve the output for our matches and allow users to write a description matches can read.
