Inspiration
One of our group members was in and had family in California during the wildfires.
What it does
It asks the user what type of disaster they are dealing with from a drop down menu, which after selecting a disaster, shows the user a map depicting nearby shelters if applicable and generates information about what supplies are needed, directions to survive, and ways to mitigate the adverse effects of the disaster. When the shelter is clicked, the weather is displayed with the current weather alert (if applicable).
How we built it?
A lot of blood, sweat, and tears.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into a lot of issues initially getting the APIs configured and set up.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The Map with markers for shelters. Creating the alert system.
What we learned
We learned a lot about APIs and how to modify them to meet our exact needs.
What's next for HenHacks 2025 - FirstStateDisasterAid
Looking ahead, we plan to expand our system to include more regions, more disaster types, integrate with additional data sources for even more accurate information, and enhance our AI capabilities to provide even more personalized and actionable insights
