Inspiration

The inspiration behind HemoLink came from real-life stories of Thalassemia patients, who struggle to find matching blood donors in emergencies. Despite national efforts like e-RaktKosh, there's a clear gap in real-time donor-patient matching, donor engagement, and offline accessibility — especially in rural and semi-urban areas.

What it does

HemoLink is an AI-powered platform that connects blood donors with patients in real time, especially targeting the needs of Thalassemia patients and emergency cases.

How we built it

Frontend: Flutter (for cross-platform mobile app) Firebase for notifications and authentication Backend: Node.js + Express.js REST API MongoDB for storing user data and donation history AI Layer: Python + scikit-learn Model trained on synthetic datasets (donor frequency, eligibility window, location) Other Tools: Google Maps API (for donor-location mapping) Google Calendar API (for reminders) QR Code Generator (Python + React Plugin) SQLite (for offline mode) Google Speech API (for voice assistant)

Challenges we ran into

Data Privacy: Ensuring health and donor data is securely stored and transmitted. Offline Access: Syncing offline activity to the cloud without losing data integrity. Dynamic Matching: Creating a live match system that filters by location, blood group, availability, and urgency. AI Model Accuracy: Training the AI with limited datasets and achieving reasonable prediction reliability. System Integration: Building compatibility with systems like e-RaktKosh and Blood Bridge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Built a complete, scalable platform that connects donors and recipients in real-time. Designed a modular system that can integrate with national health databases. Developed offline-first mobile capability with secure local storage. Successfully trained a donor prediction model to suggest the most likely available donors. Introduced inclusive features like voice assistant and family circle support.

What we learned

How to implement AI in healthcare for real-world use cases. Importance of human-centered design in life-critical applications. Dealing with data synchronization and conflict resolution between offline and cloud states. Building an app with accessibility-first thinking (voice, low-bandwidth support, simple UI). Working with secure EHR systems and government integration protocols.

What's next for HEMOLINK

Integration with official health systems like e-RaktKosh and state blood banks.

💬 Launching multilingual support to reach non-English speaking users across India. Improving AI models with real donor datasets. Linking with hospital EMRs/EHRs for seamless data flow. Gamifying donor participation (e.g., badges, loyalty points, social sharing). Scaling the platform to support pan-India deployment, including disaster and emergency response zones.
