Project Story: Hemocare — Where Thalassemia Meets AI
Inspiration
Thalassemia is a lifelong blood disorder that demands frequent transfusions, vigilant monitoring, and deep emotional strength, often from patients with limited access to care or digital literacy.
We were inspired to design Hemocare after understanding how underserved this community is in terms of personalized, tech-enabled health tools. While many AI solutions exist, very few are built for real people in real conditions, especially in rural or low-income areas.
Our goal: bring AI where it's needed most, and where it can do the most good.
What We’ve Learned (So Far)
Though still in the idea submission phase, developing Hemocare’s concept has taught us:
- AI in healthcare must be context-aware, not just smart.
- Predictive care can empower patients to act before symptoms worsen.
- Inclusion starts with design: we must support multiple languages, voice inputs, and assisted onboarding.
- Technology should simplify, not overwhelm — especially for chronic care.
How We Plan to Build It
This project will be developed entirely during the hackathon. No prior code or reused projects will be submitted.
Tech Stack Preview:
- Frontend: React.js (web), Flutter (mobile)
- Backend: Node.js or Spring Boot
- AI/ML: Azure OpenAI, Whisper, or TensorFlow (for predictions and chatbot)
- Database: PostgreSQL / Firebase
- Notifications & Communication: Firebase Cloud Messaging, WhatsApp Business API
We will use open-source libraries or APIs, with full disclosure and attributions.
🧗 Challenges We Anticipate
- Simulating realistic patient data while respecting privacy rules.
- Designing voice-based and language-friendly interfaces.
- Keeping the chatbot safe and compliant with Rule 12: no misleading, harmful, or offensive content.
- Creating an intelligent system that knows when to refer to a doctor instead of making uncertain AI suggestions.
- Completing a usable, demonstrable MVP within 24 hours.

By simulating patient health trends, sending reminders, interpreting symptoms, and offering multilingual assistance, Hemocare transforms how Thalassemia is managed — especially for those who have no structured support.
We believe Hemocare has the power to predict, protect, and personalize care — and make a real-world impact for thousands of patients.
