Inspiration
We were inspired by the chaotic and unreliable way people currently search for blood donors through social media and WhatsApp groups.
What it does
Hemo is a secure iOS "network" that connects verified blood donors with those in urgent need. Using a "Find Now" button, the app only reveals compatible donors when a real emergency is triggered.
How we built it
We built the application natively for iOS using SwitfUI to ensure a high performance, modern interface. For the core logic we implemented:
Maps by Apple: To handle proximity mapping and hospital locations. Swift Data: To manage the database updates and secure user authentication. Weighted Algorithms: A backend logic that protects universal donors (O-) by prioritizing exact matches first.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was balancing extreme urgency with user privacy. We also had to map out complex medical filters.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are incredibly proud of our Dynamic Tier Scaling algorithm. It simulates how a real-world emergency evolves
What we learned
The project taught us that great engineering must be paired with empathy.
What's next for Hemo
Our roadmap includes a visual module for Organ Donation registration and direct syncing with official hospital blood bank inventories.
