Inspiration:

For our inspiration, we noticed while brainstorming that all of our teammates have grandparents that live in india, and so there is not much of an option to communicate with them in person too often. So, we turn to technology. We use facetime and whatsapp to keep in touch, and a lot of the time they have issues, so we want to eliminate these issues with our project and assist our elders to make sure they can have the same technological advancements we do.

What it does:

HelpNest addresses this issue because it is built to be a user-friendly web tool that understands the difficulties many non tech-savvy people might have, and asks senior citizens to tell their problem and walks them through the process. Users can choose whether to speak or chat with our teammates, whatever they’re more comfortable with! And our team is available 24/7, and it is our mission to help you, so ask away! Users can ask any questions about websites or apps, such as ordering something from amazon, communicating via email, and changing their address on their social security account online.

How we built it

To build HelpNest, we decided to use HTML, CSS, and Wix. For HTML and CSS, we used repl.it. We kept in mind that we wanted to keep the project systematic and simple, so we wouldn’t overcomplicate our idea and it would remain user friendly.

Challenges we ran into

Our project focuses on the idea of letting senior citizens ask questions and get responses quickly. At first, we thought they should join a call with us in it, so we can figure out the solution face-to-face. However, we realized that there might be many of them who are not as comfortable using this method. We also thought of using survey monkey or google forms to get them to explain their issue, but we quickly realized that for no-tech savvy people, this is just more confusing work. Therefore, we decided to use two other options called chat and speak, where they could record a message explaining their problem or type it out in the chat. We also had problems fixing the box on the website, but figured it out using CSS for the style portion of the project.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

the intricate design and the usage of different languages.
the code because it is our first time the teamwork because we all managed to work together and work hard on the project the final result of the project came out to match our expectations and dedication, as well as efforts.

What we learned

This was our first time in Hackathon, so we had minimal knowledge on coding, though of course we were still determined towards success. Here are our takeaways: We learned how to use HTML and CSS to create a website, which we used in the process of creating the website HelpNest. How to use chat boxes. We decided to incorporate this idea into our project as an efficient way of communicating and keeping in touch with the users. We had a workshop where we learned about the ways to incorporate and use python in projects. We learned about the basics of it and how you can insert values in and get an output.
