Inspiration

The idea came from a very simple but stressful situation: being in a new city and not knowing where to turn when help is needed. It might be something small, like finding a pharmacy that is still open at night, or something urgent, like needing a doctor who speaks the right language. Existing apps are overloaded with irrelevant listings, fake reviews, or information that can’t be trusted when every minute matters. That feeling of being lost, without guidance, is what pushed me to create this project.

What it does

HelpNear Agent is a lightweight web app that makes the search for help simple, fast, and reliable. Instead of endless scrolling, it shows only verified providers nearby, with filters like “open now,” budget options, and available languages. There is also a history of past searches and the option to add new providers, so the database can grow and stay relevant.

How I built it

I started with a prototype to test the flow, then created a minimal frontend where each page reflects a core scenario: onboarding, home search, provider detail, history, submit, settings, and FAQ. Entities like Provider, Request, and Review give structure to the data and prepare the project for scaling. Even in this form, the app shows how the experience can feel seamless and stress-free.

Challenges

The hardest part was cutting scope. There are many directions—medical, legal, translation, social services—but the focus had to stay on one universal problem: finding trusted help nearby, quickly. Another challenge was making the design simple enough for a tourist with a one-time need, but flexible enough for a resident who may use it every week.

What’s next

The next step is turning this prototype into a PWA and seeding a pilot city with real providers in partnership with NGOs and local organizations. Then the concept can expand with separate checklists for tourists and citizens, multilingual templates for calls and messages, and advanced filters for accessibility and affordability. Feedback from migrants, seniors, and students will help refine the flow and turn the project into a true MVP solving real problems on the ground.
