Inspiration

We saw many of the local businesses in Seattle struggle after COVID-19 hit. This included all our neighborhood hangout spots, mom and pop grocery shops, and bars/restaurants. We just had to make something to help them.

What it does

HelpLocalBusinesses.org helps local businesses raise short-term liquidity by selling gift vouchers for cash today. Patrons can redeem these vouchers once normalcy is restored, and businesses can pay for their daily expenses in the meantime, using the raised funds.

How I built it

We used Django hosted over an AWS Lightsail instance with a little bit of HTML, CSS and JavaScript. We also used Stripe for payments.

Challenges I ran into

None technologically, but would need a lot of help in getting local businesses everywhere on this platform.
