Inspiration
Helping Shelly Bash was created for the purpose of spreading awareness to the general population, this first iteration of the game was to expose the horrors of pollution in our oceans but can be scaled to educate people in other social issues.
What it does
With the help of Twilio anyone that texts our number 985-336-3358, will be sent a fact about pollution in our oceans and a link to play the game. Users are able to use their phone to join the game and control their avatar buy tilting their phone up or down to avoid hitting any of the trash, are oceans are very polluted so this proves how difficult it is for sea-life to maneuver in their world.
How we built it
The foundation of the game was hosted Rocky Linux 8 virtual machine hosted on Microsoft Azure. Then we download t he twillio's PHP SDK so we can take advantage of the SMS service it provides to reach the audience.
Challenges we ran into
The amount of the players on the leaderboard would overflow the screen making it hard to read for the audience.
Figuring out how the players and obstacle collide.
Styling the leaderboard.
Figuring out how to parse the phone accelerometer data to the game.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to parse the data from the accelerometer from the phone to the socket.io.
We were able to take advantage of Twillio's service to send an SMS with a link to join our game, only if they send the correct key word.
We were able to figure out how the obstacles comes in different speed.
We were able to have multiple players playing the game at the same time.
What we learned

We learned how to put SVGs on the canvas attribute
We learned how to parse the phone accelerometer data to socket.io
We learned how to connect two technology such as the phone to the computer.
What's next for Helping Shelly Bash
This first iteration of the game was to expose the horrors of pollution in our oceans but can be scaled to educate people in other social issues. We can use this game spread awareness about climate change, global warming. We can redesign the game to match with the social issues we are spreading.
