Inspiration

Mental health issues of those who are quarantined and who have the fear of death. This issue is mentally challenging for those, who carry some health risks. So, we thought of a solution focusing on this group of people considering their possible problems such as depression and anxiety.

What it does

The solution is an online tool to help people who are quarantined. It is prepared by a psychologist & computer engineer (me), so the website is designed to be positive so that it gives hope to the people who are most probably depressed. This solution was already implemented before for the Global Hack, and it is designed to be multilingual, with some volunteer translators involved in it. Also, exercising part has been one focus of the project, considering positive impacts of exercising and yoga on the mood and well being. The theory behind this implementation is based on “cognitive behavioural therapy”, where patients have to do some homeworks for changing their thinking patterns and behaviours.

How I built it

The software platform is WordPress, which allows built-in packages for the creation and monitoring of the websites. For the future work, development of an application on Facebook has been considered for connecting accounts to the website automatically, so that some posts are posted on the website in an automatic manner. A new section on website for sharing experiences through Facebook is also planned.

Challenges I ran into

Creation of new ideas and extension of the existing project.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

My research and expertise, which is on computer science and psychology, plus, my position as a yoga teacher. Also, my social network in Marie Curie Alumni Association.

What I learned

Importance of solidarity in crisis times.

What's next for Helping people who are in quarantine

For the future work of the project, we thought of creating an application on Facebook which will allow people who are confined or quarantined to share their ideas/experiences via Facebook posts, directly connecting to the blog in a separate section, so that, others can also see what happens to those, and have ability to connect with each other by following Facebook posts. Also, more volunteers would be reached out by the usage of Facebook.

Financial dimension is important for the future, as we need some professionals (such as psychologists) to help us. Also, we need technological experts (such as computer engineers) to develop the application on Facebook and create an automatic tool for automatic connection and posts. So, it can be good to work with some companies for this as well as researchers who work on crisis intervention. The funding may be needed for advertising the product, as well, and European Commission may fund this project.
