Inspiration

We were inspired to create this after learning many communities and community groups such as certain recreation centers, summer camps and even neighbourhoods didn’t have resources or money to excel to their highest potential. We knew we had to help.

What it does

Community centers, summer camps, people from neighbourhoods and others that are in need of resources can place a request on our website regarding what resources they need and where they need them. After the request is approved, then a section will appear on our website regarding what resources are needed and where they are needed based on the information provided by the person who requested them. Users who view our website will then have the option to volunteer at this particular location or donate money. This is beneficial as community centers, summer camps and neighbourhoods can request for help and people from the community now have an outlet in which they are able to help.

How we built it

We built this prototype using HTML and CSS.

Challenges we ran into

It was difficult to create a website with our limited coding experience, due to this certain features such as website responsiveness were left out. It was also difficult to create a layout for the website that we were all satisfied with.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the fact that we were able to create a website that is functioning in most aspects and we are also happy with what we came up with.

What we learned

We learned how much of an impact a single website can make and we also learned how to make an effective pitch. Through research, we also discovered how many communities are affected by an inadequate amount of resources.

What's next for Helping Hands

If Helping Hands gets a positive response we will develop it more using JavaScript and more advanced concepts in HTML and CSS. We will also create a backend to store information such as requests that are made on our website. We would also create more pages and make sure that all pages function correctly.
