Helping Hands
Helping Hands is a simple solution to allow people in need for help to request it through a easy-to-use system.
The system consists of two parts:
- SMS Question and Answer system that allows the requester to give their name, location, need (...)
- Website where these requests are shown for volunteers to see, where they can claim a particular request in order to solve it
Challenges we ran into
-Coding using Twilio API to process text messages -Using Google Mapps API to display the request in a map -Designing a good-looking website, that is respectful to all parts and has a straightforward UX, such that anyone can use it
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The Twilio integration for the given project was core to make the idea work, and the current SMS Q&A system is expandable
What I learned
-Use of Twilio API -Merging bugs on GitKraken
What's next for Helping Hands
-Blocking numbers from accessing the system -Timing out volunteers when request claimed but not completed -Minimise amount of required text messages -Add icons to the map, showing different categories of request
