Inspiration

Many times, people don't know others around them are suffering, financially, safety wise, or with any other issues. Combined with the fact that COVID has exasperated many food banks' resources and has left many people struggling financially, I was inspired to create Helping Hand to reduce food insecurity within the community, raise awareness within each community, and match donors with recipients.

What it does

Users can create a post and assign it the following categories: donor, security, request, and small favor. Once the user posts it, the post will be updated in other users' feeds. Only users within a 25 mile radius can see the user's post, and vice versa, allowing locals to help each other conveniently.

How I built it

I used JavaScript, Google Maps API, HTML, and CSS to create Helping Hand.

Challenges I ran into

This is my first time using Firebase and Google Maps API, so my main problem was figuring out how to use them.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Getting the website to work!

What I learned

How to use Firebase, Google Maps API, and further CSS design

What's next for Helping Hand

Compile a list of recipients so donors can contact them and vice versa
