Inspiration
I saw a blind individual crossing the road one day while visiting a neighbouring shop, and the bikers were passing by at a very high speed. I assisted the man in crossing the street and discovered that he and his wife live alone in my city. I offered him my phone number and told him to call me if he ever needed help in a similar situation. He eventually contacted me, but I was in the middle of a test at the time, so I was unable to pick up his call and was unable to assist him. As a result of that interaction, I felt inspired to help all blind, Elderly and specially-abled people.
What it does
As we all know, it is becoming very unsafe for blind people to travel and cross the road owing to rash driving, and it is difficult for them to follow covid social distance regulations on their own. As a result, we created Helpify under the theme of open innovation to address this issue.
Helpify is a web-based platform with the mission statement "Let's Lead Who Are In Need". It allows a blind or impaired person's relative to register them with all of their details. Based on such information, any volunteer can aid them depending on his or her availability and location conditions and be rewarded with helpi-coins, which they can use to purchase products from the Helpify store.
It includes About Us page that has all of the information about the Helpify. It also has a Contact page with an embedded map of our location and our contact information, as well as a Feedback section where anyone may leave us feedback, suggestions, or messages.
The goal of this platform is to allow blind individuals to navigate freely in the city while also assisting them in adhering to covid Protocols, such as maintaining social distance from random persons walking down the street.
How we built it
*Technologies Used* - HTML ,CSS ,JAVASCRIPT ,BOOTSTRAP ,TAILWIND.
Challenges we ran into
- We had trouble finding more volunteers because, due to the frantic nature of city living, no one had time to participate in such missions. As a result, we came up with the idea of a helpi-store, where volunteers may buy products with helpi-coins, motivating them to volunteer.
- We had less engagement with our teammates due to lockdown, so we worked seperately, which resulted in a lack of synchronisation. Shortage of resources was also a negative factor.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to have created the Helpify Platform, which is completely responsive and can be used in any device .
It may be utilised all across the world to improve the lives of blind, specially-abled, and elderly people. It will also relieve tensions among relatives of these persons who may live in another city.
What we learned
We learned and used frameworks such as Bootstrap and Tailwind for this project. We also learned NodeJs and MangoDB, but due to time constraints, we were unable to use them in this project.
What's next for Helpify
Future Scope:
- To include a Talk-back option for blind and elderly persons, which is a text-to-speech converter, so that they can register to get a volunteer anytime they need one.
- Convert Helpify to an app-based platform so that blind and elderly people may utilise it easily.
- Integrate Google Maps API so that volunteers can discover who is in need near them and filter needy folks depending on their preferences.
- Include Geo Positioning System (GPS) so that relatives of blind people may track their whereabouts and details while getting volunteered.
