To help individuals who cannot find affordable legal advice, Helpful Legal Advice for All! It collects an individual's details comprehensively, and tests on applicant's eligibility for legal aid.

What it does

The Helpful Legal Advice for All is a solution in which individuals are able to access and find legal aid, or affordable legal help and assistance. The solution will produce a PDF file with all the important information (submitted by the individual) that the individual can submit to a legal aid clinic, or perhaps even accessed by the clinic directly. This will hopefully help enhance accessibility to legal aid and advice, in terms of saving valuable time and resources for both the individual and the organization!

How to access Helpful Legal Access for All!

Challenges we ran into

Coding different questions, as well as the logic behind the sequencing of questions really took a while, especially in Docassemble! As most of us did not know how to code, we actually had to learn on the spot and really get our hands dirty with coding and self-learning, which turned out to be a great experience for us!

Working with AWS was also a pain, since the starting of the virtual machines and installation of software took hours. We were logged out every 3 hours, so we had to work efficiently and quickly to resolve issues. Nevertheless, we persevered and even assigned a hostname for easy accessibility to our service (through a QR code or a web link)!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We've managed to get all the essentials down (important crucial questions), as well as the template documents and the final finished product. While our backend is complete, we are nowhere near done as there are many other features that we did not have time to integrate and build upon, but nevertheless, we are still proud of our finished product.

What's next for Helpful Legal Helper

Users can look forward to a more pleasing on the eyes visual interface, as well as integration of AI recognition software that enhances the eligibility assessment process, and perhaps even the nature of the process itself.
