Helper Hub

We have created a hub - a web portal that consists of people with different types of occupations such as a service provider, tutor, doctor, logistic, or any other occupation.

Inspiration

  • When we think about connecting people who are living in a common society or an area, we find there is not such any portal to communicate together.
  • This has always been the inspiration for this project, to build up such a portal where people can connect.
  • Hence such an innovation will allow all people to connect with their neighbors very easily and frequently.

What it does

  • The Helper Hub will ultimately collect every person's occupational data whom so ever wants to register and further classify them into different categories according to their occupation. Hence all people can connect with each other.
  • When a person registers, he/she can have their profile built up in the portal, which can be seen in the "Hub" section on our website.
  • This portal will let others connect to you, which ultimately helps in making good work throughout.
  • A user can also chat with other people with the help of the chat system in the Hub section.
  • Whenever needed, the user can also update his/her profile information.

Vision

  • Build an ecosystem where finding or providing gig jobs or services is hassle-free.

How we built it

  • We have used Django and Django rest framework for our website.
  • We use Html, CSS, JS, Jquery, and Bootstrap in the frontend part.
  • Here we have also implemented OTP verification when the user registers, through Twilio API.
  • A chat system is also implemented in our system.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • We are glad to make such a portal that will connect all the people in the neighborhood.
  • It happens sometimes that besides staying much closer, the neighbors are not able to communicate to us very friendly.
  • This project will solve this problem to some extent, especially for the people who are shifting into new homes.

Challenges we ran into

  • Making real-time chat applications in a small amount of time is challenging.
  • Integrating Twilio API is also challenging.
  • Making real-time communication in a web app.

What we learned

  • We come across different problems and ultimately solve them to make a better website. That helped me to learn a lot of new things.
  • We established a good knowledge about how OTP verification works using Twilio and how to implement a chat system to the Django framework.

What's next for Helper Hub

  • There are a lot of things that are to be done in the near future.
  • One of the main things is to implement a web portal Area-wise, so people get a better idea about their neighbors.
  • Also making the website more friendly and easy to use with every security feature required. Implementing a better working chat system.
