Inspiration

Our team wanted to build a project that would have a social impact and would solve a problem we face in our society. The inspiration for Helpa was the need to build a platform that addresses the challenges faced by people with disabilities in accessing job opportunities. Our team recognized the disparity in employment rates and we saw the potential to use technology to bridge the gap and create a more inclusive job market.

What it does

Helpa is a job search platform that connects people with disabilities to job opportunities and resources. The platform offers various features such as job listings, career resources, and an accessible application process. Its mission is to promote inclusivity and equal employment opportunities for people with disabilities.

How we built it

Our team built this project by using Velo by Wix, which allowed us to create a website cutting down our development process without sacrificing the website's functionality. We started by researching and designing the user experience and interface, user flow, then moved on to development, testing, and refinement. We were able to successfully build this project by collaborating effectively with each other.

Challenges we ran into

During the development of Helpa, the team faced numerous challenges. Being new to the Velo by Wix platform, they struggled to figure out how to start building the project within a limited time frame. As this was a team project, we initially found it difficult to align our ideas and work effectively together. Additionally, we were unsure of where to begin and how to prioritize tasks. One of the biggest roadblocks we faced was an issue with the application form where users were unable to submit it due to a temporary error. Despite these challenges, our team persevered and successfully overcame them to create this functional and impactful platform.

What we learned

Through this project, we learned several valuable lessons. Firstly, we learned the importance of effective communication and collaboration in a team environment. We also learned the importance of planning and setting realistic goals and deadlines to ensure that the project was completed on time. Additionally, we gained experience using the Velo by Wix platform which helped us build this great platform within a limited timeframe and with low code requirements. We learned how to troubleshoot issues that arose during the development process. Finally, we gained a greater understanding of the importance of user experience and user interface design in creating a successful web application.

What's next for Helpa: Empowering People with Disabilities to Find Jobs

Our team would love to share this platform with real-time users and will continue to improve the platform based on user feedback and add more features to better assist people with disabilities in finding jobs. We all love our team efforts and we hope to continue this project where we will plan to collaborate with more organizations and disability advocacy groups to expand our reach and provide even more resources and support.
