Inspiration
Learning to drive is a vital skill, yet formal driving lessons can be prohibitively expensive for many, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds. We wanted to create a solution that democratizes access to driving education using technology.
What it does
Drive is an intuitive mobile app that simulates real-world driving scenarios, teaches core driving principles, and provides interactive lessons and quizzes. It guides users through traffic rules, car mechanics, and decision-making on the road, making it easier and more affordable to prepare for both theoretical and practical driving exams.
How I built it
I built Drive using Bolt for rapid mobile app development, which allowed me to quickly design and deploy a responsive interface. I integrated backend features with Firebase to handle user authentication and store progress data. My simulation modules were kept lightweight to ensure accessibility on a range of devices.
Challenges I ran into
One of the biggest challenges was creating simulations that felt intuitive while being compatible with lower-end phones. Bolt’s speed was a benefit, but customizing advanced driving logic within its framework required creative problem-solving. I also had to carefully structure educational content so it was digestible but still thorough.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm proud of having a complete MVP that runs smoothly across devices and delivers real learning value. I designed a modular lesson structure, received positive feedback from users in underserved communities, and proved that high-quality driving education can be affordable and accessible.
What I learned
I learned the importance of balancing functionality with accessibility, especially when developing for lower-resource users. I also became more skilled in working with Bolt, and learned how to design educational content that works across cultures and learning styles.
What's next for Drive
Next, I plan to add voice instruction, expand the quiz bank, include region-specific driving laws, and partner with driving schools to validate the material. I also aim to launch a pilot program in rural areas and improve accessibility features to support users with disabilities.
