Inspiration

This idea was conceived after we learned about how people with mental health issues face a lot of different challenges in their daily life. Around 1-in-7 people globally (11-18 percent) have one or more mental or substance use disorders. The COVID-19 pandemic harshly affected many people's mental health and created new barriers for people already suffering from mental illness. Help Me application was thus created to help such people and bring back positivity in their lives.

What it does

Help Me is platform which helps to find solutions for people suffering from mental health problems. In our website you can register as a Non-profit organization or as a User.

Non-profit organisations Login: There are various non-profit organisations(NGOs) who want to help people suffering from such illness. So in our application they can donate money to such mental health institutions, they can check the worlwide suicide/mental health percentage index which is run via a Machine Learning Model and can also lend thier hands to the society by telling us how they want to contribute.

Single User Login: This is basically for the users who are suffering from mental illness and want to consult the health experts. They need to simply take a survey available in our website. The survey reports will be directly sent to a health expert, also the user will be provided with the contact details of a health expert and will be connected to the nearest expert by tracking their location. Also there is a chat box where they can communicate with each other.

How we built it

We built the backend with Django, the details of each users including the registration details is stored in a database built with SQL Lite. Various Machine Learning and Deep Learning models were used to calculate the mental health/Suicide Index. Adobe XD was used for protoyping the UI and the final frontend was created using HTML,CSS and Javascript.

What we learned

We have learned an un-quantifiable amount of knowledge about disabilities and indeed the problems that people with mental illness encounter.

What's next for Help Me

From here we hope that the website can be funded to bring some of the more conceptual features to life and therefore help to better the wellbeing of people suffering from Mental Health issues and would like to reach as many people as possible around the world.
