Inspiration: Before we were a group of 4, we all had helping people in mind when we heard about community. By discussing through our ideas on day 1, we had combined 2 ideas to make what Help Express is all about.
What it does: Help Express is a website that matches people in need, specifically homeless people, with those that can provide the items for them. We believe that by connecting these people together, homeless people can gain basic necessities that would help when they need it most.
How we built it: We used Figma as a way to create a template as to what our we wanted our project to look like and function. After creating a visual model, we got started on creating a short python demo that goes through a list of questions that the user gets to answer to help with the matching process.
Challenges we ran into: Some challenges that we ran into was figuring out how to create a matching algorithm and incorporating that into our program. This was our first time working with databases.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: Isabel - "I meet new people that reignited my passion for CS.", Adrian - "I'm proud of my Figma design and working on the prototype.", Ray - "Fixing our match algorithm on our python demo.", Anna - "Learning how to program using APIs."
What we learned: We all learned new skills like learning how to use Figma, APIs, GitHub, DevPost, and Notion. We all plan on honing these skills as we continue our career.
What's next for Help Express: We would like to implement a database that will help with storing both the donator and recipient's information, as well as help with the matching process.
